The cost is only 50 cents (35 cents on TAP cards), although it's almost 3 miles from Hollywood and Highland to Vermont Avenue, so you might need to take another bus. Public Transportation - On Saturdays and Sundays, the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) operates the Observatory Shuttle ( website) from Hollywood Blvd and Vermont Avenue to the Griffith Park Observatory. You can also get unobstructed views of the Hollywood Sign from the hiking trails above the parking lot, although it's a side view and not the best angle for picture-taking. The best viewing is from the west side, along the perimeter of the Observatory. This is another good opportunity for tourists, since the Griffith Park Observatory ( website) is in itself an interesting attraction. Hollywood Sign from the Griffith Park Observatory But don't worry - they only have 15 minutes! Just browse a shop or two and when you come back out, the decks will have plenty of room. When a tour group comes through, the viewpoints can become extremely crowded. If the observation decks are too crowded, on level 4 go all the way to the east side of the structure, where the courtyard overlooks Highland Avenue.Hollywood and Highland is probably already on your itinerary, so while you're there be sure to take plenty of photos of the sign. If you have limited transportation then this could be one of your best options outside of a guided tour. On the same level there's a patio with a large bench where you can sit and have your photo taken with the Hollywood Sign in the background. On level 2 there is a California Pizza Kitchen restaurant which has outside seating where you can view the sign while you eat lunch. Two levels of observation decks near the back of the courtyard are open the general public (level numbers 3 and 4). There are multiple viewpoints from which to view the Hollywood Sign at Hollywood and Highland ( website). Buyer beware of defective shoes.Hollywood Sign View from Ovation Hollywood After this experience I would not recommend this store to anyone I know and I doubt I would ever buy shoes from this location again. I was treated like I was a criminal and I was a customer that bought multiple pairs of shoes. I did not get an apology from anyone that worked at the store. It took about an hour out of my day dealing with this and I got nowhere. At the end of the day, this company sold a pair of defective nike shoes in Hollywood, Ca and would not do anything to fix the situation. One employee told me that he agreed the shoes were manufacturer defect but refused to return or exchange them. Originally, I purchased a couple pairs of shoes from this location and one of the pairs had glue problems. He told me that I have to contact Nike directly because he can’t resell a defective shoe, yet they had no problem selling to me. The shoe palace store admitted they sold me defective Nike shoes but refused to so anything about it. This place is an overpriced tourist trap, save your money, stay away and go to a Footlocker which has better service, selection, and prices. The inconsistent work practices, the lack of customer respect and service after a purchase, is intolerable. I spoke to a different employee who switched out the shoes and didn’t even ask me for my receipt. I drove all the way home (an hour drive) and retrieved the receipt which I brought back. He also inspected the unworn shoes in great detail looking for any kind of reason to reject my request. A grumpy and rude employee of large stature was dismissive and told me he couldn’t help me without a receipt. They were unworn and I forgot to bring my receipt which I thought wouldn’t be an issue as I was just there for an exchange, not a return. After purchasing a pair of shoes that turned out to be one size too big I came back hoping to exchange them for a smaller size. Nice selection but over priced and terrible customer service.
